The origin of Margherita pizza

Hello students,

I’d like to share with all of you a research that one of my students has done recently. It’s about the origin of Margherita pizza. Read this and find out where it comes from. I hope you find it interesting.

Margherita pizza is made with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and basil.

The story says that this type of pizza was made by pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito in 1889. He created it in honor of the Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, and the Italian unification.

Apparently, Queen Margherita was bored by the French food she had to eat, so she obligated Raffaele Esposito to make for her three different types of pizzas.

He made Napoli, Marinara and the last one was Margherita pizza. The Queen loved the last one, and that was the reason why that one was named after her.

Fun fact: the colours of the ingredients; basil (green), mozzarella cheese (white) and tomato sauce (red) are inspired by the colours of the Italian flag.

This has been a summary of the story. If you are interested in the whole story, you can look it up on the net.
